Winter brings crisp air, shorter days and the urge to cozy up indoors. For many of us, it also brings one of the year’s most beloved holidays: Christmas. As children, the excitement of presents—sneaking downstairs to peek and hoping for a favorite toy—was part of the magic.
As we get older, gifts tend to become more practical. Last year I received a Roomba vacuum, and it turned out to be one of the most useful and appreciated gifts I’ve ever had. Thank you, husband!

Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, the season offers wonderful food and the promise of a fresh start with the new year. For many workplaces, the holidays mean Secret Santa exchanges or small acts of kindness—yet buying individual gifts for every colleague can be impractical. A simple, thoughtful homemade treat is often the best solution.

If you want to give something memorable and delicious, try my Holiday Spice Pecan Crumble Bread. The aroma of allspice, cinnamon and cloves fills the kitchen as it bakes—it’s the perfect seasonal scent and flavor combination.
It’s not the size of the present that counts but the thought behind it. A homemade loaf wrapped with a ribbon and a small note shows appreciation and spreads festive cheer, whether for family, friends or coworkers.
This Holiday Spice Pecan Crumble Bread makes an excellent gift. Package it with green, red or gold ribbon and attach a short message of gratitude for someone who’s worked hard all year.

You can bake several loaves at once with ease. The crumble topping adds a delightful texture while chopped pecans provide a satisfying crunch. I prefer natural pecans so they complement the bread without overpowering the warm spice mix.
The crumble lives up to its name—tender and breaking apart as you enjoy each bite. Pumpkin puree lends a moist, rich body to the bread, creating a buttery, comforting crumb that pairs perfectly with the spices.
Pumpkin puree is simply cooked pumpkin that’s been mashed smooth, leaving a silky pulp with no lumps. Combined with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, a single slice evokes the cozy warmth of a fireside winter afternoon.
While this recipe highlights pecans, feel free to customize: add dried fruit, chocolate chips or toasted seeds if you like. Pecans remain a tasty, slightly healthier choice and deliver the ideal crunch to balance the soft loaf.
Bake one loaf for a neighbor, several for coworkers, or keep one all to yourself—you deserve a treat, too.

- 1 15 oz can pumpkin puree
- 2/3 C water
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- Crumble ingredients :
- ½ C cold butter cubed
- ½ C light brown sugar
- ¾ C flour
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 C chopped pecans
Method
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8×4-inch bread pans.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice and ginger.
-
Stir in the granulated and brown sugars until combined. Make a well in the center and pour in the canola oil, mixing just until incorporated.
-
Add the eggs two at a time, mixing after each addition. Then stir in the pumpkin puree, water and vanilla until the batter is smooth.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and set aside.
-
For the crumble: combine the flour, light brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut in the cold cubed butter with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Stir the chopped pecans into the crumble mixture.
-
Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over both loaves of batter.
-
Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Let the loaves cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.
