Seven Layer Hoagie Dip captures the bold flavors of a classic Italian hoagie in a shareable dip—perfect for game day and tailgates.

I love football season—it’s one of my favorite times of year. We cheer for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and as Ohio residents we always have a soft spot for Buckeye-inspired treats. With game day in mind, I created this Seven Layer Hoagie Dip to bring all the classic hoagie elements into one easy-to-serve dish for tailgates or homegating.

Instead of a bread bowl version I’d seen, I modeled this on a seven-layer dip but used classic hoagie ingredients. The base is a smooth mix of white beans, whipped cream cheese and Italian dressing for that tangy, creamy foundation. From there, layers of drained petite diced tomatoes, shredded iceberg lettuce, quick-pickled red onions, chopped salami, shredded mozzarella and pepperoncini rings build textures and savory flavor. Serve with thinly sliced baguette for dipping and you’ll have a crowd-pleasing appetizer ready before kickoff.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) can white beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can petite diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 1/3 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup salami, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup yellow pepper rings (pepperoncini)
  • 1 baguette, thinly sliced for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine the sliced red onions, salt, sugar and white vinegar in a small jar. Let them sit while you prepare the other ingredients to quick-pickle the onions.
  2. In a food processor, puree the drained white beans, whipped cream cheese, Italian dressing and minced garlic until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly in the bottom of a square dish.
  3. Spread the drained petite diced tomatoes in an even layer over the bean mixture.
  4. Top the tomatoes with the chopped iceberg lettuce, spreading it evenly.
  5. Drain the quick-pickled onions and distribute them over the lettuce layer.
  6. Scatter the chopped salami across the onions in an even layer.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella over the salami layer.
  8. Top with pepperoncini or yellow pepper rings.
  9. Chill the dip in the refrigerator for about an hour to let the flavors meld.
  10. Serve chilled with thinly sliced baguette for dipping.
