Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Cirque du Soleil: Quidam. It was my first Cirque show, and I was excited to spend an evening out with friends. We left the boys at home with my mom since the performance didn’t start until 7:30 p.m. (thanks, Mom!), but after the show I would definitely consider bringing them next time. The performance was more kid-friendly than I expected and should be enjoyable for children around age six and up.
Quidam showcased impressive feats of strength, flexibility, and moments that made me think, “I can’t believe the human body can do that!” The whole experience was thrilling and thoroughly entertaining.
A few surprises
I don’t want to give away too much, but there were a few unexpected elements that stood out.
- Humor: I hadn’t expected Quidam to be funny, yet several moments had the audience laughing out loud, which added a delightful lightness to the show.
- Live music: The live musicians enhanced the performance beautifully. I wasn’t sure whether all Cirque shows include live accompaniment, but the music here added depth and atmosphere to every act.
- Simplicity: Compared with the large-scale productions I imagined, Quidam’s set and staging were intentionally simple, directing full attention to the performers. At times I felt transported to a small French theater a century ago rather than a modern arena in Raleigh, NC, which made the evening feel intimate and special.
I highly enjoyed the show and recommend it. If you’re in the Raleigh, NC area, you could catch Cirque du Soleil: Quidam during its run at the venue.
Have you seen Quidam? What did you think?
