Rosemary grows abundantly in my yard and beyond, so I turned some of the harvest into a DIY Rustic Rosemary Wreath. It’s festive, fragrant, and suits our ranch-style home perfectly.

To give the wreath an extra touch, we repurposed an old leather belt as a hanger. The belt was cut to length and given extra holes so it could buckle securely over the top of the wreath, adding to the rustic charm.

Materials Needed To Make DIY Rosemary Wreath

  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Metal wreath frame
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Green floral wire
  • Sprigs of lavender (optional, for color)

How to Make

1. Use a round metal wreath frame as the base. Gather your rosemary, pliers, and green wire.

2. Lay the rosemary around the frame first to create an outline and see how full you want it to be. Then secure bundles to the frame with wire, wrapping tightly so pieces stay in place.

3. You’ll need a generous amount of rosemary to achieve a full look, particularly if the sprigs will dry and shrink slightly.

4. For a hanger, use an old leather belt, a strip of leather, or sturdy wire. If using a belt, trim it to the desired length and add holes as needed so it buckles neatly over the wreath.

5. Tuck a few lavender sprigs or other accents into the top for a subtle pop of color and contrast.

6. Hang and enjoy a beautiful, aromatic wreath that makes your entryway smell fresh and welcoming.

Rosemary For Christmas

Rosemary belongs to the mint family, Lamiaceae. Its Latin name ros marinus means “dew of the sea,” and the plant has historically been associated with flowers and fragrant foliage. During the holidays, rosemary is often used as a symbol of friendship, loyalty, and remembrance—an especially fitting sentiment for seasonal decor.

Using Fresh or Dry Rosemary on this Rustic Wreath

We used fresh rosemary for this project, but drying the sprigs for a day or two before attaching them can give a better idea of the wreath’s final size and shape. To dry rosemary, wash and pat the sprigs dry, then bundle them and hang in a well-ventilated area. You can also dry sprigs in the oven on a parchment-lined sheet at the lowest temperature setting until dry.

Rosemary For Memory

Beyond its pleasant scent, rosemary has been linked in some studies to improved memory performance when its aroma is present. Whether or not it boosts recall, rosemary provides a fresh, pine-like fragrance that enhances the seasonal atmosphere.

Tips For This Rustic Wreath

  • Work with partially dried sprigs to better judge the wreath’s final appearance.
  • If you don’t have a leather belt, a strip of leather or a length of decorative wire makes a good hanger.
  • Add lavender or another contrasting herb to the top for color and visual interest.
