Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars Recipe — Gooey Chocolate Pecan Squares

Gooey Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars — all the beloved flavors of pecan pie combined with semi-sweet chocolate, baked into easy-to-serve bars.

Gooey Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

Do you always make pecan pie for the holidays? Many of us stick to traditions—certain dishes are practically required. Turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and of course dessert. Still, sometimes it’s nice to offer a twist without upsetting the whole menu.

At our house we keep the classics, but we also add new things occasionally. Some experiments go over better than others—one year I swapped green beans for broccoli and it didn’t win any fans—so I saved that change for a quieter meal. Desserts offer me more leeway, though pecan pie is still expected.

This year I made both individual pecan pies and these Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars. The pies were great, but the bars quickly stole the show. They’re sweet and gooey, like classic pecan pie, with the added richness of semi-sweet chocolate. They disappeared fast—plates were wiped clean and fingers were licked. These bars might just replace the pie next year.

Ingredients

for the crust

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

for the filling

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 full cup pecan halves
  • 1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, brown sugar and cubed butter using a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. A food processor can be used instead.
  2. Press the crust mixture into an ungreased 9×13-inch pan. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10 minutes.
  3. While the crust bakes, beat together the eggs, corn syrup, sugar, flour, salt, vanilla and melted butter. Stir in the pecans.
  4. Remove the crust from the oven and evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips over the warm crust. Pour and spread the pecan filling over the chocolate chips.
  5. Cover with foil and return to the oven. Bake 15 minutes covered, then remove the foil and bake an additional 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely before cutting and serving.
