Sloppy Joe French Bread Slices Recipe: Savory Melted Sandwich Toasts

The perfect game day appetizer, snack idea or even meal! Quick, easy and crowd pleasing.

This simple recipe uses just 5 ingredients: French bread, ground beef, sloppy joe sauce, shredded cheddar, and diced onion. Bake, slice, and watch it disappear.

It’s ideal for big appetites, which is why I like it for football parties or any gathering where cheese and meat lovers are present. It’s also a satisfying snack for a relaxed Sunday at home—both kids and adults enjoy it.

This quick & easy snack is meaty, cheesy, and fuss-free.

Begin by dicing the onion and sautéing it in a little butter or oil until softened. Add the ground beef, crumble and cook until no longer pink. Drain excess grease, then stir in the sloppy joe sauce until evenly combined.

Slice the French bread lengthwise and place the halves on a lined baking sheet. Spread the meat mixture across the bread, top generously with shredded cheddar, and bake at 350°F for about 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread edges are toasty. Let cool a few minutes, slice, and serve.

I like Manwich-style sloppy joe sauce for this — it delivers a balanced sweet-and-salty flavor with a hint of tang that complements the beef and cheese.

These sloppy joe French bread slices are irresistible—one batch never lasts long.
