What’s Behind the Name: Origin, Meaning, and History

Welcome — and thanks for visiting to learn the story behind the blog name Cuts and Crumbles!

I launched this food blog in 2016 after brainstorming many name ideas. I wanted a title that clearly reflected the site’s purpose: sharing flavorful recipes that focus on trimming calories while still tasting great.

The “Cuts” in the name represents my main goal — to create and collect simple, healthy recipes that are lower in calories without sacrificing flavor. I started this project as a complete beginner in cooking, food photography, and blogging, so I also embraced the inevitable missteps and learning moments — the “Crumbles.”

Although the site emphasizes health-conscious cooking, I’m not rigid. My diet isn’t perfect, and I enjoy indulgent dishes now and then. That’s why the blog includes both lighter recipes and occasional treats — from sensible weekday meals to fun splurges like stuffing or bacon-wrapped mashed potato bites.

To make navigation simple, recipes are organized into two clear sections: THE CUTS contains the healthier, lower-calorie recipes and includes full nutritional information to help with meal planning; THE CRUMBLES contains richer, more indulgent recipes that don’t include nutritional breakdowns.

There is also a third category, The BBQ Brothers, which features recipes developed and written by my husband and brother-in-law — both grilling enthusiasts. Their collection covers everything from straightforward backyard basics to more advanced smoker techniques, and they’ve put together a beginner’s guide to grilling for readers who want to build skills on the grill.

This is the short version of how Cuts and Crumbles got its name and direction. Thanks for reading! If you’d like to learn more about me and the blog’s background, check the About Caitlin page on the site.
