A few photos of my cat, Luxie, as she lounges in a sunbeam on the bed after an energetic sheet-changing session.
These pictures were actually taken in November, which is why Luxie looks a bit smaller than she does now. I meant to post them earlier but the truth is my Lightroom cat folder contains over 1,000 images. I’ve been sorting through them, keeping the ones I like and discarding the rest.
Any cat owner will recognize Luxie’s expression — that calm, contented look of a cat who thoroughly enjoyed helping change the sheets. From her point of view it was a delightful game; she’s puzzled by my flustered state and is already wondering when the next sheet-changing day will be.
For this week’s creative edit I experimented with Topaz Labs’ woodcut effect. It reminded me of high school art class, when we tried woodcut prints. Mine never looked particularly good back then, but Luxie makes a striking subject and the effect suits her surprisingly well.
Sunlight, a soft bed, and a patient cat make for simple, peaceful photos. Luxie’s relaxed posture and quiet confidence are what I try to capture: the way she stretches, the gentle curl of her tail, and the satisfied half-closed eyes that say she’s exactly where she wants to be. Those small, serene details are why I keep photographing her.
Editing helps me highlight those moments. I tend to experiment with different filters and textures until an image feels right. The goal is to preserve Luxie’s personality while giving the image a visual character that enhances the mood. The woodcut attempt gave the photos a bold, graphic quality while still keeping the warmth of the scene.
Even routine household tasks can become opportunities for connection with a pet. Sheet changing turned into a shared activity and a photo session, and those spontaneous interactions are often the most rewarding to document. Luxie’s curiosity and playful persistence make ordinary moments memorable.
So here are a few snapshots of Luxie enjoying the sunlight after her big sheet-changing assist. I’ve kept the selection simple and focused on the natural light and her relaxed expressions. These images are a small reminder that quiet, everyday moments with a pet can be both comforting and beautiful.
